North Fork Vision... a Public School with Educational Choice

North Fork
VISION HCP STAFF

Here to Help our Learners and Families on the pathway to Educational success!

Teri Kinkade
-Director-
I became the Director of the North Fork Vision Home and Community Program in August 2009.  I spent the previous twenty-five years in higher education which included experience working  for Eastern Wyoming College, Chadron State College, Colorado State University, Nova University and the past sixteen years at Colorado Mountain College.  My last position at Colorado Mountain College was the CEO of the West Garfield Campus.  Community Colleges like Colorado Mountain College are gems for interesting and alternative educational formats and opportunities.  I was blessed to work for one of the best!  I left that position and career for a lifestyle change.  It was not an easy decision to make because I loved my job, the people I worked with, and the work we did to help people create better futures for themselves.

But my life had changed, unexpectedly.  I met my wonderful husband just about the time I became the CEO of the West Garfield Campus.  We both wanted to get to Delta County, someday, and spend our lives together where we could also be closer to family.  We also love this area.  "Someday" came sooner than we expected.  The opportunity became available to use my education, administrative and leadership skills for this interesting alternative school called the North Fork Vision Home and Community Program.  My husband and I weighed the pros and cons of this big lifestyle change, and we decided to go for it -- and here I am as the Director.

The beginning of this journey has been amazing.  There has been so much for me to learn, and I am not finished with that process.  But who is?  We are all lifelong learners.  I am fortunate to have a great team of people who are committed to the work we do.  They are a strong support for me and our learners.  The opportunity for learners and families to have choice within the public school system is not usually available in small rural communities.  We are fortunate.  In leading our program, I am committed to growth and quality.  With freedom and choice come responsibility.  We have begun our journey in developing individual growth paths for learners based upon the individual learning plan goals and learner proficiency.  We want our learners to follow their dreams and passions, become independent learners and have strong academic and life skills for the next steps in their lives.  I have the joy and pleasure of working with our team, our families and our communities to promote an environment where individualized paths of learning can occur.  What a sweet job!
